Pomology Weather Services was created to fulfill the need of a simple and efficient way to receive timely weather-related tree crop information specifically for California fruit and nut growers, researchers, and industry.
Our first project started November 1, 1998 with the calculation of chilling units below 45°F. The 1999-2000 season sees the addition of two methods of calculating chilling units (between 32°F and 45°F, and the Utah model) and a harvest prediction module for peaches, plums, and nectarines. The Fruit & Nut Research and Information Center hopes to continue weather-related projects with researchers and industry.
The service was made possible through the financial support of several commodity groups and collaboration with the UC Statewide Integrated Pest Management Project and the California Department of Water Resources.
